THE TGV ACADEMY

(An Overview of the Program)

The TGV is a Private English-medium, Christ-centered boarding School located in the Buruti area, Rorya District, Mara Region, in Tanzania. Note that the following programs will be operated on campus as the LORD permits.

Proposed Divisions of The TGV Academy

[1] Pre-Primary School: Serving students from 3-6 years old. These are our youngest Kindergarteners. This program is also known as "KinderCare." Preschoolers are usually ready to learn, make friends, and practice independence! We will offer your child a safe and nurturing environment to do that.

[2] Primary School: Serving students from 1st through 4th grade. In primary school, all children will take the following subjects: Maths, English, Kiswahili, Science, Social Studies (which includes concepts from Geography, History, Civics, and Life Skills), and Bible Knowledge (mandatory for all TGV students).

[3] Middle School: Serving students from 5th through 7th grade. Note that in grades 4 and 7, all students must take a national exam before continuing to the next level. The National Exam results determine whether they can progress to secondary school.

[4] Secondary School: Also known as O-Level. Serving students from 8th through 12th grade. During the Ordinary Level, students will narrow their focus and choose to take a combination of subjects. For example, Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology); Arts (Geography, Kiswahili, English); and Business (Commerce and Bookkeeping). All students will take Math, Kiswahili, and Bible Knowledge regardless of their focus.

[5] High School: Also known as A-Level (Advanced Level). Serving students from 13th through 14th grade. If students get high marks on their Form 4 national exam, they can attend an A-Level program for an even more narrow focus of study. Combinations are HKL (History, Kiswahili, and English Language), HGL (History, Geography, and English Language), HGE (History, Geography, and Economics), EGM (Economics, Geography, and Math), ECA (Economics, Commerce, and Accountancy), PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology), PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Math), and PGM (Physics, Geography, and Math). Following A-Levels, students may apply for a university to earn their degree.

TGV ON-CAMPUS EXTRAS

[1] Library: TGV will have a 10,000+ volume library, including many resource materials, fiction and non-fiction books, and numerous audio-visual materials. Overseen by our full-time librarian, the entire collection will be accessible via a computer cataloging system that includes an automated procedure for checking out and tracking books.

[2] Computer Labs: Numerous programs will further enhance math and language skills. In addition, students will be able to learn keyboarding skills and software applications as they become more prepared for today's world of technology. The goal is to have all students at TGV access a fully equipped computer lab, complete with filtered internet access, overseen by our qualified computer teacher/ technician.

[3] Art: At TGV, there will be art education classes for all Pre Schoolers and Primary students that include color, line, shape, texture, and much more. Students work on art projects that develop their artistic skills in each grade.

[4] Laboratory: At TGV, laboratory science experiences are critical to the learning process across all areas of study, beginning with kindergarten and continuing through post-secondary education. For example, students will safely and directly investigate chemical properties and reactions during hands-on chemistry activities, utilizing laboratory apparatus and instruments.

[5] Music: At TGV, we believe Music is a vital subject for all children to learn. Music education improves and develops language skills in children. Music stimulates the brain, and with its varied sounds and lyrics, students are quickly exposed to a large amount of vocabulary. There will be Music subjects will be incorporated into the Curriculum. Also, there will be a School Choir, where students can exhibit their talents and praise God simultaneously.

[6] Workshop (Optional): Only for those interested, primarily high schoolers. Here, students will learn simple skills such as safely using hand tools, power tools, woodworking machinery, etc.

[7] Field Trips: Field trips often serve as a powerful motivator for students, stirring up excitement as the trip nears. Field trips are considered educational tools at TGV to connect students to classroom concepts. During these trips, teachers will get out of the classrooms and have an opportunity to cultivate their experiences.

[8] Physical Education: The TGV philosophy of physical education begins with acknowledging that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19). Therefore, we will teach our students the importance of maintaining themselves in the same condition God created them. This will be accomplished by guiding students to understand their bodies and learn to care for them.

The TGV sees physical education as an essential part of the overall Curriculum. The PE department will allow students to learn about their bodies and physical activities, develop psychomotor skills, appreciate fitness and recreational activities, and develop social skills (character traits) through friendly competition.

Other activities will include but are not limited to daily exercise, jogging, football, basketball, hockey, kickball, soccer, baseball, and athletic competition. Note: Additional information in the Physical Education Handbook will be provided during admission.

[9] NEWSTART Program: This physician-monitored, scientifically researched lifestyle change program is based on eight fundamental principles that help you achieve optimum health: Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sunlight, Temperance, Air, Rest, and Trust in God.

[10] Campus Spirituality: As the School Logo indicates, we believe in the God of the Bible—one God, Creator of Heaven and Earth (Gen 1:1). Without Him, we can accomplish nothing. Thus, the School Chaplin will lead services, and God's name shall be proclaimed daily on this campus. Everybody (teachers, students) shall be required to attend church services. The school Chaplain, Matron, and Patron will closely work with/ report to the headmaster for compliance about spiritual matters. The Academic Dean will incorporate Prayer, Bible Study, and fellowship into the TGV’s weekly curriculum/ schedule.
