The Doctrine of God-Part 1.

“Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord [the only Lord].” (Deuteronomy 6:4, AMP)

INTRODUCING THE GOD OF THE BIBLE.

Romans 1:19–20 shows that man by nature believes there is a God. In this text there is a reference to the conscience of man — “For that which is known about God is evident to them and made plain in their inner consciousness, because God [Himself] has shown it to them. For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is, His eternal power and divinity, have been made intelligible and clearly discernible in and through the things that have been made (His handiworks). So [men] are without excuse [altogether without any defense or justification],” (Romans 1:19–20, AMP)

John 1:9 shows that the entry point into every man’s heart is Jesus Christ: “There it was—the true Light [was then] coming into the world [the genuine, perfect, steadfast Light] that illumines every person.” (John 1:9, AMP). The way we believe in God is by Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:21). Furthermore: there was no God-framework in Corinth (1 Corinthians 2:2); there was no God-framework in Ephesus (Ephesians 4:20–21).

In short: Belief in God comes by revelation. [1] The first level of revelation is by the conscience (Romans 1:20). The conscience alone is insufficient to save (Romans 2:12); but sufficient to condemn (Romans 2:15); [2] The second level of revelation is by the Holy Spirit: “And when He comes, He will convict and convince the world and bring demonstration to it about sin and about righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God) and about judgment:” (John 16:8, AMP)

WHO IS THE GOD OF THE BIBLE?

[1] There is no attempt to prove God’s existence in the Bible. The Bible believes in existence of God: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1, NKJV) From the very beginning, the writers of the Bible made no attempt to defend the existence of God, or explain what He was like. Our understanding of God must be ‘believed”—Listen to what Yahweh is saying concerning the creation: “You are My witnesses, says the Lord, and My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know Me, believe Me and remain steadfast to Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me.” (Isaiah 43:10, AMP)

[2] The only safe route to belief in God is by faith. Yes, Science may generally affirm creation one day, but science will never by-pass faith as the safe route. Both the doctrine of God and Creation are to be believed by faith: “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” (Hebrews 11:3, NKJV) “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6, NKJV)

[3] Can we prove who God is? The challenge in Malachi 3:10 is possibly the closest any of the Bible writers come to proving God. “Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” (Malachi 3:10, AMP)

NOTE: Mere belief in God in a sense proves nothing because even the devil believes in God (James 2:19); He knows his final doom (Matthew 8:29); He knows his time is short (Revelation 12:12).

[4] What two things precipitate faith? The preaching of the word ~ the gospel of Jesus Christ (Romans 10:14; 1 Corinthians 1:21); and the ministration of the Holy Spirit (John 16:8).

NOTE: Faith comes by God’s will. Apostle James says —And it was of His will [God’s own free will] “that He gave us birth [as sons] by [His] Word of Truth, so that we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures [a sample of what He created to be consecrated to Himself].” (James 1:18, AMP). Faith of Couse is God’s gift according to John 6:44, 65. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,” (Ephesians 2:8, NKJV)
