BY JESUS CHRIST/ Means of Access to God/ 200A-001 (John 14:5-6)/ Lesson # 1/ Key Text: “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6, NKJV)
Heart Question: Is God accessible? By what means can we have access to Him? Are there any requirements one must possess to have access to God?
One of the greatest wonders revealed in the Scripture is the truth that a holy and Omnipotent God can be approached by weak and sinful men. This is exactly the thought conveyed by doctrine of accessibility. The word accessible means “easy to approach or enter.” For instance, if you have a key to your house or car; you can easily enter at any time. If you don’t have a key you can’t enter.
In John 14:5–31, Jesus is having a conversation with His disciples. In this occasion He answers three questions, asked of Him by three disciples – Thomas, Phillip, and Judas. Today, we are just dealing with Thomas’ question. “Thomas said to Him, Lord, we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way? Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.” (John 14:5–6, AMP)
“Jesus’ response shows that the destination is not a physical place but a person (the Father), and that the way to that destination is another person (the Son). Jesus is the Way to the Father; Jesus is the Truth (or reality) of all God’s promises; and Jesus is the Life as he joins his divine life to ours, both now and eternally. Jesus is the way that leads to the truth and life.” [Bruce B. Barton, John, Life Application Bible Commentary, (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House, 1993), 290].
Action Step: What response do you think this lesson should inspires us to do? Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. God sent His Son into the world that those who believe in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Have a Blessed Day: “You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” (John 15:3–4, NKJV)
