Man was Created by God!
MAN WAS CREATED BY GOD/ 75M-001 (Genesis 1:27)/ The Original State of Man/ Key Text: “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”” (Genesis 1:26, NKJV) “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:27, NKJV)
Heart Questions: What does it mean that Man was created in God’s image? Evolution is taught to our children in public schools! Are the proponents of evolution mistaken? What does God say about same-sex relationships, or homosexuality? For what purpose was Man created, among other things? What is God’s formula on Marriage? What is the divine plan for Marriages today?
Here are few observation from our Key Text — Man was made in the image of God. The word “image” points to physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual endowments that would be needed for humanity to fulfill God’s purpose for them. Humans are made in the image of God and reflect divine characteristics (such as morality and the ability to choose), but they are not inherently divine.” [Jon L. Dybdahl, Ed., Andrews Study Bible Notes, (Berrien Springs, MI: Andrews University Press, 2010), 7].
Evolution Theory: Man was not made in the image of a monkey—but in the image of God. One of the primary truths that come from these verses is the fact that man is the product of God’s creative power and not the result of random evolution. Man did not evolve from a single-celled organism over the space of millions of years; he is the special creation of God.
Here is one of the greatest dangers in the entire system of evolution, as it is taught to our children in public schools. You see, if man simply evolved, then he is no different than a dog or a cat. You kill him and he simply ceases to exist. There would be no resurrection of the Dead (1 Cor. 15). There is no Hope (John 14:1-3). There is no God (Jn. 3:16). There is no Heaven to be gained, or a Hell to be shunned.
“There is no ground for the supposition that man was evolved by slow degrees of development from the lower forms of animal or vegetable life. Such teaching lowers the great work of the Creator to the level of man’s narrow, earthly conceptions. Men are so intent upon excluding God from the sovereignty of the universe that they degrade man and defraud him of the dignity of his origin.” (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 45).
To have Dominion—Man was created higher than animals. Because man was created in the image of God, he can have fellowship with God. (We will develop this point in future Lessons)
God’s formula on Marriage: —God created Man and Woman. Same-sex marriage (gay marriage) – a marriage between two people of the same sex or gender is not Biblical. It’s offensive to God. It is sin. Beloved, Marriage was established before any government, schools, or churches. Government may legalize such marriages, but remember they are NOT God. God’s word should be our absolute authority, and not governments. Beloved, God created man and woman for each other. The divine formula is 1 man/ 1 woman.
What does God say about same-sex relationships, or homosexuality? From the very beginning, we see that God condemns such behavior. The following prohibitions of homosexual practice are clearly documented in the Bible: “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” (Leviticus 18:22, NKJV) “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.” (Leviticus 20:13, NKJV)
Sodom and Gomorrah are illustrious cities demonstrating how God views homosexuality: “Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house. And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.” (Genesis 19:4–5, NKJV) How did God punish these cities? “But on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.” (Luke 17:29, NKJV)
Now if God judged the people of Sodom, what makes you think that He will be forgiving (lenient) to you? In fact, Jude 7 says that the judgment of Sodom and Gomorrah serve as “an example” of what will happen to all who practice same-sex relationships, or homosexuality: “(The wicked are sentenced to suffer) just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the adjacent towns—which likewise gave themselves over to impurity and indulged in unnatural vice and sensual perversity—are laid out (in plain sight) as an exhibit of perpetual punishment (to warn) of everlasting fire” (Jude 7, AMP). I am not gifted in colorful words, but I think these strong words are self-explanatory. Beloved, if you practice such things, Repent of this sin immediately, Jesus loves you!
Lastly, Homosexual practice is incompatible with the Kingdom of God: “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9–10, NKJV)
THE GOSPEL’S VOICE: What is God’s plan for Marriage? “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.” (Ephesians 5:22–29, NKJV)
ACTION STEP: What response do you think this lesson should inspires us to do? Don’t believe the erroneous teaching on Evolution; Adoration: Praise God for creating you in His own image: “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.” (Psalm 139:14, NKJV); Devotion: Have fellowship with God. Remember, you are unique, you have been created in the image of God. Be like Jesus: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church.”
Have a Blessed Day: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:9–10, NKJV)
