Proverbs 28: Bible Study Guide.
20-BSG-28A: WORSHIP GUIDE.
EXPLORATION: God requires righteousness of His people — (Isa 1:16-17; 56:1; Jer 22:3; Hos 10:12; Zep 2:3; Mt 5:6; Mt 6:33; Eph 6:14; 1 Tim 6:11; 2 Tim 2:22)
REFLECTION: The first portion of this chapter (vv. 1-12) outlines characteristics of the righteous and the wicked. The righteous is wise, diligent, or upright. The wicked is foolish, lazy, or deceitful. We will discuss more on the Wicked in the next segment.
Let’s focus more the Righteous. The Righteous is bold like a lion (28:1); understands rebellion and maintains order (28:2); keeps the law of God and resists the wicked (28:4); seeks the LORD and understands justice (28:5); chooses integrity and poverty over dishonest gain (28:6); is discerning and obedient to God’s law (28:7); is blameless, he will have good inheritance (28:10); is poor but wise— he has understanding because he relies on God (28:11); he triumphs and rules in righteousness (28:11)
DEVOTIONAL IMPLICATION: Beloved, Wisdom is ‘the fear of the Lord!” (Pr. 9:10). Since the Lord is ‘the Righteous One’ (Ps. 145:17), the wise-man will make righteousness their chief aim both in their personal lives and their public affairs. The wise-man will be careful not to transgress the Law of Jehovah. Should he stumble and fall, he will confesses, turns away from his sins —repentance — and will find compassion and mercy from the Lord (Pr. 28:13)
THE GOSPEL’S VOICE: This section is written as if God were speaking directly to you—Because He does. What does the Lord say to me this morning? My son, there are two groups in this chapter, two ways, two lifestyle: righteousness and wickedness. I am inviting you to be on the side of righteousness. Would you keep My Laws? Listen, My Law is perfect, converting the soul; My testimony is sure, making wise the simple; My statutes are right, rejoicing the heart; My commandment is pure, enlightening the eyes (Psalm 19:7–8). Strive to be holy, obey My commandments, and you will be blessed.
MY DESIRE: By God’s grace, I want to obey God’s Law and practice righteousness both in personal and public life. May God help me, Amen.
Have A Blessed Day: “Blessed are those who do His commandments that they may have the right to the Tree of Life, and may enter through the gates into the city.” (Revelation 22:14, NKJV)
