Mark 7: Bible Study Guide

Mark 7: Worship Guide/ 41-BSG-7A, (Mark 7:24)/ Theme: Christ could not be Hidden/ Hymn: Brightly beams our Father’s mercy; [Author: P. P. Bliss (1871)]

Exploration: Jesus, the Light of the World; God as Light, OT allusion — (read Ex. 13:21–22; 14:19–20; Neh. 9:12, 19; Ps. 27:1; 36:9; 43:3; 44:3; 104:2; 119:105, 130; Prov. 6:23; Isa. 60:19–20).

Reflection: “From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And He entered a house and wanted no one to know it, but He could not be hidden.” (Mark 7:24, NKJV) There are many Themes here, but for the purpose of our Worship Hour this morning, Mark draws our attention to the fact that Jesus could not be Hidden! “Inevitably, as happened wherever Jesus went, news about His arrival quickly spread. Even deep in Gentile territory, roughly thirty-five miles northwest of Capernaum, the people had heard about Him. According to Mark 3:8, people from “the vicinity of Tyre and Sidon” had been among the crowds that followed Jesus during His Galilean ministry (cf. Luke 6:17). They undoubtedly returned home with firsthand reports of the amazing miracles they had witnessed. As a result, word about Him spread far beyond the borders of Israel.”—[John MacArthur, Mark 1–8, MacArthur New Testament Commentary, (Chicago, IL: Moody Publishers, 2015), 365].

Devotional Implication: Why He could not be hidden? Because of the Old Testament prophecy so declared; Because of His character: It was not possible to hide love, light, life; Because He had heavenly unlimited gifts for men. You see, the beloved Son of God was given up to the World (Jn 3:16). When He was thirty years of age, He presented Himself to John, for Baptism, at the Jordan. There, John identified Him as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (Jn 1:29). When He was in this house (Mk 7:24), it was noised abroad: no house was big enough for Him. When in the tomb — Death and the grave could not hide Him! Hallelujah, Praise The Lord, for Jesus’ Christ. Beloved, in like manner, we ought not to be hid, Christ commanded us — “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16, NKJV)

The Gospel’s Voice: This section is written as if God were speaking directly to you—Because He does. What does the LORD say to me this morning? My son, this is a glorious principle – Jesus could not/ cannot be hidden! Always He finds a way to touch lives, bless people and work out their salvation because He cannot be hidden! To those who sincerely seek Him, the promise is sure: they shall find Him (Jer. 29:13). To the unbelieving world, the time is coming when “every eye shall see Him” (Rev 1:7, Acts 1:11). To the dead, small and great. He will be “Judge of all” (Rev. 20:11–15). Behold, He is standing at the door (your heart) and knock (Rev. 3:20). Would accept Him today?

My Desire: By God’s grace, I want to – 1. Seek Jesus, the Light of the Word/ 2. Be a little light for Jesus and shine to those around me.

Have A Blessed Day: “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.” (Matthew 5:14–15, NKJV)
