Numbers 13: Morning Devotional/ 4-BSG-13AB/ Topic: Faith Versus Fear — Seeing Giants or Seeing God?
Central Theme: God calls His people to trust His promises despite the giants before them.
Exploration:
Faith over fear — “We walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7).
Courage to obey — “Be strong and very courageous” (Josh. 1:7–9).
Discouragement spreads — “Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character” (1 Cor. 15:33).
Faithful witnesses — Caleb and Joshua stood firm (Num. 13:30; 14:6–9).
Vision of victory — “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31).
God’s promises are sure — “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ” (2 Cor. 1:20).
In a Nutshell: Numbers 13 tells the story of Israel’s spies sent to explore the promised land. While all twelve saw the same land, ten brought back fear-filled reports, focusing on the giants, while Caleb and Joshua declared faith in God’s promise. The chapter highlights the battle between faith and fear — one leads to courage and obedience, the other to doubt and disobedience.
Reflection: Do I see life through the eyes of faith like Caleb and Joshua, or do I focus on the giants that seem bigger than God’s promises?
Devotional Implication— [1] God’s promises demand trust, not fear. [2] Unbelief discourages others and delays God’s blessings. [3] Faith inspires courage and pleases God. [4] God calls us to be like Caleb and Joshua — men and women of a different spirit.
The Gospel’s Voice— (The LORD says to me this morning): “My child, do not fear the giants before you. My promises are true, and I am with you. Do not spread fear or discouragement, but be strong in faith. Like Caleb, see the land through My eyes, not your own. Trust Me, for I am greater than the giants you face. Walk in obedience, and I will give you victory.”
My Desire: By God’s grace, I want to –
[1] Trust God’s promises without doubting.
[2] Overcome fear by fixing my eyes on the Lord.
[3] Encourage others with words of faith.
[4] Obey God even when the majority disagrees.
[5] Pray for a Caleb-like spirit of courage and boldness.
[6] Live daily in confidence that God is greater than any giant in my life.
Benediction: “May the Lord strengthen your faith like Caleb, give you courage like Joshua, and keep your eyes fixed on His promises. Go in peace, and walk by faith, not by sight. Amen.”
