4-BSG-16Y.2: FIVE WORDS
Bible Study Guide/ Numbers 16: Five Devotional Words/ Numbers 16, (4-BSG-16Y.2)/ Central Theme: God’s holiness cannot be challenged; rebellion leads to death, but intercession brings life.

[1] Word #1: Rebellion
Summary: Korah, Dathan, Abiram, and 250 men rose up against Moses and Aaron, rejecting God’s appointed leadership (Num. 16:1–3). This rebellion was not just against men but against God Himself.

Reference in the Chapter: Numbers 16:1–3.
OT Parallel: 1 Samuel 15:23 – “Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.”
NT Parallel: Jude 11 – those who perished in “the rebellion of Korah.”
God’s Promise: Proverbs 16:18 – “Pride goes before destruction.”
Lesson for Us: Reject rebellion; walk in humility and submission to God’s order.

[2] Word #2: Humility
Summary: In response to the rebellion, Moses did not argue or fight back. He fell facedown before the Lord, showing humility and dependence on God’s judgment (Num. 16:4).

Reference in the Chapter: Numbers 16:4.
OT Parallel: Micah 6:8 – “Walk humbly with your God.”
NT Parallel: James 4:10 – “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
God’s Promise: 1 Peter 5:6 – “Humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.”
Lesson for Us: True strength is in humility before God, not in defending our pride.

[3] Word #3: Judgment
Summary: God acted decisively: the earth swallowed Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, and fire consumed the 250 men offering unauthorized incense (Num. 16:31–35). His holiness demands justice.

Reference in the Chapter: Numbers 16:31–35.
OT Parallel: Leviticus 10:1–2 – Nadab and Abihu consumed by fire for strange fire.
NT Parallel: Acts 5:1–11 – Ananias and Sapphira judged for lying to the Spirit.
God’s Promise: Galatians 6:7 – “God is not mocked; a man reaps what he sows.”
Lesson for Us: Sin leads to destruction; fear the Lord and obey Him.

[4] Word #4: Intercession
Summary: When God’s wrath broke out, Moses and Aaron interceded. Aaron ran into the crowd with incense, standing “between the living and the dead,” and the plague stopped (Num. 16:46–48).

Reference in the Chapter: Numbers 16:46–48.
OT Parallel: Exodus 32:11–14 – Moses intercedes for Israel after the golden calf.
NT Parallel: Hebrews 7:25 – Christ ever lives to intercede for us.
God’s Promise: 2 Chronicles 7:14 – if His people pray, He will heal their land.
Lesson for Us: Intercession saves lives—pray for family, church, and nation.

[5] Word #5: Holiness
Summary: God’s actions revealed His holiness and set a boundary to remind Israel that only His chosen priests could approach Him (Num. 16:38–40).

Reference in the Chapter: Numbers 16:38–40.
OT Parallel: Exodus 19:22 – priests must consecrate themselves before approaching the Lord.
NT Parallel: 1 Peter 1:15–16 – “Be holy, for I am holy.”
God’s Promise: Hebrews 12:14 – “Without holiness no one will see the Lord.”
Lesson for Us: Holiness is not optional; it is the call and mark of God’s people.

Devotional Implication:
Numbers 16 reminds me that rebellion destroys, but humility, intercession, and holiness bring life. I must avoid the spirit of Korah and instead follow the way of Moses and Aaron—submission, prayer, and reverence before God.

The Gospel’s Voice (As if God is speaking to me)
“My child, do not rebel as Korah did, for rebellion is against Me. Walk humbly before Me, as My Son humbled Himself even to the cross (Phil. 2:8). Stand in the gap for others, for I honor the prayers of the righteous (James 5:16). Be holy, for I am holy, and I have called you to live as My chosen possession. If you hear My voice today, obey Me, for I am your God and Savior.”

My Commitment:
[1] I will submit to God’s authority and reject rebellion.
[2] I will walk in humility before God and others.
[3] I will pray and intercede for others faithfully.
[4] I will live in reverence for God’s holiness.
[5] I will trust Christ, my eternal Intercessor, for daily grace.

Benediction:
May the Lord keep my heart from rebellion, fill me with humility, guide me in intercession, and clothe me in holiness. May His glory be my light, His mercy my covering, and His Spirit my strength, both tonight and forevermore. Amen.
