Genesis 1: Prayer Guide

Genesis 1: Prayer Guide/ 1-BSG-1B (Genesis 1:1-31)/ Theme: He made the Stars also/ Hymn: Now, dear Lord, as we pray! (SDA 671)

Key Text: “He who made the Pleiades and Orion, and changes deep darkness into morning, Who also darkens day into night, Who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the surface of the earth, The Lord is His name.” (Amos 5:8, NASB95)

Opening Remarks: The most astonishing fact for me in Genesis chapter one, is this little phrase found in verse 16, ‘He made the stars also’. It is like this a throwaway line in the Bible. It is astonishing given the sheer number and the complexity of the galaxies and stars. But one solid fact remains: God created, “for He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.” (Psalm 33:9). When God speaks, things happen.

Think about this: there are about 200 billion stars (or perhaps more) just in the Milky Way galaxy alone this number is likely to increase as telescope technology in space improves. For all this the Bible says, “He (God) made the Stars also!” And most amazing, God knows them all my name. What an awesome God!

Beloved, if God can order billion of Stars into existence in a milliseconds (and they stand perfectly in their orbits, about 6,000 years later) how much more can He do for you? Do you believe in the Creator God? Do you believe that He can recreate you (Col 3:10) and cause you to have “new beginnings” regardless of the situation you are currently going through? As we come to the today’s Prayer Session, we are invited to believe in God, repent our sins (1 Jn 1:9), and have the confidence that “He who has begun a good work” in us “will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Phil. 1:6). Amen?

Values to Build On: Faith in God; Thanksgiving; Respect for God; Respect for environment; Respect for family.

Sins to Avoid/ Confess: Failure to acknowledge the Almighty God as the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe.

Something to Thank God For: Creation of Heaven and Earth; Being made in the image and the likeness of God; Land as a divine gift; Gift of Life (human beings); Gift of Life (animal and plant); Man’s ability to reason and emulate God’s character.

People to Pray For: All human beings (especially those within your circle), to emulate God’s character henceforth, for He created them in in His own image (Gen. 1:26, 27).

Issues to Pray For: Marriage (Husbands & Wives); God’s Providence; Holiness; Sabbath and Rest; Stewardship; Eternity with God; Intimacy with God.

Today’s Promise: “But we all, with unveiled faces, looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18, NASB 2020)

1-BSG-1Z: CLOSING PRAYER.

Closing Prayer/ Genesis 1, (1-BSG-1Z)/ Is there a Prayer for me to pray/echo in this chapter?  Yes.

Prayer: “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.” (Psalm 139:14)

Father, we thank You again for Your word in Genesis, chapter One. We thank You for the gift of life, for another chance to hear the doctrine of Creation, that You—Jehovah God, the uncreated self-existent, Elohim –that You alone can create. That we did not evolve (as some erroneously teach), but came from Your own hands, and that You made us according to Your image, according to Your likeness (Gen 1:27).

Help us to “know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.” (Psalm 100:3). Help us to proclaim Your mighty deeds to the nations, in every possible terms, both in public and private, that Elohim is the Creator (the author, the architect, the master designer) of “the heavens and the earth” (Gen 1:1).

Help us to proclaim to the nations that Jehovah is a loving, true God, who alone is worthy to be worshipped. Help us to confess: “but now, O Lord, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8). We thank You for creating us into Your own Image for Your own glory.

Father, we have sinned, and each one of us has wronged You in some fashion; Forgive us dear LORD. “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.” (Psalm 51:10–11, NKJV) Father, may Thy Spirit help us to “put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.” (Eph. 4:24)

We thank You for daily blessings; for gifts and promises of gifts. May You help us meet our daily needs – (physical and spiritual). May the Holy Spirit teach us to obey Your will, Commands, and Instructions.

Lord Jesus, “remember me when You come into Your kingdom!” (Lk 23:42; Jn 14:1-3); when everything shall be made right again (Rev. 21:4); when You will take Your saints home. What a day that will be? Therefore, dear Lord, sanctify us by Your Truth daily, and prepare us for the kingdom of glory. We thank You Father, and we come in Christ’s name, Amen.
