God and the Earth.

Bible Study Guide/ Jeremiah 27, (24-BSG-27Y)/ A Night Though corresponding with the today’s Bible Reading Plan/ Theme: God and the Earth/ Hymn: Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation! (SDAH 001)

Key Text: Jeremiah 27:4–5 (NKJV) — 4 And command them to say to their masters, “Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel—thus you shall say to your masters: 5 ‘I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are on the ground, by My great power and by My outstretched arm, and have given it to whom it seemed proper to Me.

REFLECTION: From this text, we can develop the following points:  [1] The Earth was made by God — “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Gen. 1:1); “For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them” (Ex. 20:11a); He created “by My great power and by My outstretched arm” (Jer. 27:5)

[2] God is the Creator of all Earthly things: “the man and the beast that are upon the ground.” — “He might have built it and left it uninhabited, or He might have populated it with other creatures than those who tenant it now. He has given what He thinks fit of it to individuals, tribes, and nations.” (Homilist.)

[3] God is the Proprietor of all. Beloved, the earth, with all its minerals, trees, oceans, rivers, and countless tenants, belong to the LORD. The Psalmist says: “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein.” (Psalm 24:1, NKJV) He gives a thousand acres to one man and denies a yard to another, it is not for us to complain.

DEVOTIONAL IMPLICATION: What response do you think this text should inspires us to do? [a] Profound Humility. Since the Earth belongs to God, and we are just tenants (stewards), we ought to be humble! We should remember that what we possess is but a gift, not a right. In this world, we are temporary guardians, not proprietors. Note: He who holds the most should be the most humble, for he has the most to account for — “For everyone to whom much is given, of him shall much be required; and of him to whom men entrust much, they will require and demand all the more.” (Luke 12:48b, AMP)

[b] Practical Thanksgiving. This indeed is all the rent that the Supreme Landlord requires from us, thanksgiving and praise: “Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; Sing praises on the harp to our God, Who covers the heavens with clouds, Who prepares rain for the earth, Who makes grass to grow on the mountains. He gives to the beast its food, And to the young ravens that cry.” (Psalm 147:7–9, NKJV)

[c] A Solemn Responsibility. What the LORD has given to us, should not be used for our own gratification only, but for the service of others, and for the glory of God.

[d] Dependence on His will. We are all tenants at will. We do not know the moment when our Landlord (the LORD) shall see fit to eject us from His land.

Have A Good Night: “Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.” (Psalm 107:8–9, NKJV)
